Pinhais Sardines in Olive Oil
Before Nuri became one of the most recognized names in conservas, there was Pinhais. Founded in Matosinhos in 1920, the cannery remains one of Portugal's most respected producers and is known for preserving many of the traditional methods that helped establish the country's reputation for tinned seafood.
These sardines are packed in olive oil, the most classic preparation in the conservas world. With only a few ingredients in the tin, they offer a clear look at the fish, the olive oil, and the workmanship of the cannery.
Pinhais continues to prepare its sardines largely by hand, from cleaning and trimming to packing and final inspection. While many canneries have embraced automation, Pinhais has remained committed to a more traditional approach that appeals to conservas enthusiasts around the world.
